Dr. Jay Stefannaci

Joseph Domenic Stefanacci, VMD, Diplomate American College of Veterinary Radiology, resides in Long Beach, New York, was raised in Pittsburgh, PA and attended the Pennsylvania State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1978. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1983 and worked in small animal private practices for six years in Philadelphia, Pa. He then completed a three-year residency in radiology, ultrasound, and alternate imaging in 1992 at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine and became Board certified in radiology in 1993.  He accepted a position as staff radiologist and radiology department supervisor at the Animal Medical Center in New York City in July 1992. He served in that capacity and as Director of Education at the Center until May 2002. As clinical radiologist, he oversaw all hospital imaging procedures, including diagnostic radiography, fluoroscopy, abdominal ultrasound, nuclear medicine, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. He performed and interpreted all procedures daily and taught students, interns and residents in the clinics and during daily rounds. He also sat on the intern selection committee for five years, helping to interview and select candidates for intern classes. He has lectured both domestically and internationally about radiology, ultrasound and alternate imaging and he has authored or co-authored over 25 journal articles.  

 

Currently, he has a private veterinary imaging consultation business, working with multiple specialty hospitals and small animal practices on Long Island and across the country. He was co-founder of, and partner in, a teleradiology imaging company, Shadowsmiths, LLC, along with 3 other board-certified veterinary radiologists, which they sold in 2011. He serves on the board of Advanced Veterinary Technologies (AVT), a full-service MRI company, and is a founding partner of Pulse Vet Imaging, a mobile ultrasound company based in New York and in Pennsylvania. His professional interests include abdominal and cardiac ultrasound and alternate imaging, i.e. CT and MRI.  Dr. Stefanacci is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association and the American College of Veterinary Radiology. He holds licenses to practice veterinary medicine in five states. 

 

His personal interests include music, his dogs, biking and the beach.
