Internal Medicine

The Internal Medicine Service at NEVCCC is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of disease of the cardiac, respiratory, gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal, urogenital, endocrine, immune and hematologic systems. Pets can develop a complex variety of illnesses requiring the skill and expertise of a knowledgeable board-certified internal medicine specialist.

Our doctors work closely with your primary veterinarian to consult about your pet’s problems, and to determine a diagnostic and treatment plan. Your pet’s plan may include critical monitoring or out-patient treatment at NEVCCC, or therapy under the care and supervision of your primary veterinarian. Our doctors are always available for follow up appointments or for consults with your primary veterinarian should questions or additional problems arise during your pet’s recovery.

If your pet is admitted to the NEVCCC, we have a highly qualified Veterinary and Nursing staff providing 24-hour medical care and monitoring.

Internal medicine focuses on the diagnosis of and treatment of non-surgical conditions. Examples of body systems that NEVCCC internists deal with on a daily basis are gastrointestinal, renal, respiratory, immune, cardiovascular and endocrine. The broad range of expertise, knowledge and training of our group allows us to offer comprehensive care. Endoscopy, rhinoscopy, bronchoscopy and thoracic and abdominal sonogram are a few examples of the procedures our internists regularly perform. Internists care for patients with acute, sometimes life threatening illnesses and patients with complicated and chronic issues. Dogs and cats that require a speedy diagnosis or those with difficult to control diseases are commonly referred to NEVCCC internists.

The internist is sometimes called the Doctor’s Doctor — acting as a general contractor for the patient to bring together all expertise in the hospital. Our primary goal is to provide optimal care with compassion for both you and your pet.
