Combined with appropriate nutrition, regular vaccinations and parasite prevention routine examinations involve regular physical checkups to allow your pet the best chance at excellent lifelong health.
When you bring your dog or cat in for their routine pet checkup, we're able to prevent health issues from developing in your pet, or catch them early, when they can be treated most effectively.
What to Expect During Your Pet's Physical
Your dog or cat will receive a thorough physical checkup from our vets in Windsor. This allows us to capture a complete picture of his or her overall health. Routine wellness exams at our animal hospital include these elements:
General Condition
Did you know your vet can glean clues about your pet's overall health from their physical condition and general demeanor? During a dog or cat checkup, we monitor how an animal stands and walks, whether they are a healthy weight for their size and their level of alertness to learn about their overall health.
Coat & Skin
When the vet examines your pet, he or she will check the skin and coat for signs of issues, including dryness or excessive oiliness, dandruff, lumps, bumps, shedding or abnormal hair loss.
Face & Head
Your pet's ears, nose and eyes will be checked for discharge or abnormalities. We will also check the mouth for signs of oral health issues such as plaque buildup or periodontal disease.
Internal Health
Heart rhythm and rate, blood pressure and pulse are essential to your pet's heart health. We'll test these to make sure they are normal. The lungs will then be examined for any evidence of abnormal breathing.
Lymph nodes are examined for pain or swelling, and we will also check the abdomen to see whether the bladder, stomach, liver, spleen and kidneys all feel normal, and to ensure that your pet is not displaying any signs of discomfort.
Review of Findings
To conclude your pet's routine exam, the vet will discuss any concerns you may have regarding your pet's overall health and address your cat or dog's nutritional requirements.
Cat & Dog Checkups
To get off to a healthy start, kittens and puppies need appropriate medical attention within their first few weeks of life.
We'll give your new family member a thorough physical examination, deworming medication and appropriate immunizations. We will also test for intestinal parasites. You will receive a puppy or kitten 'kit' filled with samples and educational material to help you care for your furry friend.

Once your kitten or puppy has had their first checkup, you'll return periodically for his or her required booster shots.
Seniors
Recent advances in veterinary medical knowledge and care, along with better nutrition and newer therapies, have our senior pets living longer than ever.
While this is great news for pets and their owners, it also means that your pet's routine healthcare will need special attention as they age. As your pet passes middle age, regular examinations become increasingly important to ensure their continuing health and longevity.
In addition to the routine preventive procedures we perform for all adult pets, we will pay special attention to your senior pet's potential geriatric conditions, such as decreased vision or arthritis.
We may recommend additional laboratory tests for aging pets to provide more detailed information regarding your senior pet's health and well-being.
